Jan van Neerven (1964) studied biology and mathematics at the University of Amsterdam. He obtained his PhD in mathematics at Leiden University in 1992. After having held post-doctoral positions at Caltech and the University of Tuebingen, he moved to Delft University of Technology in 1996 with a KNAW Research Fellowship. After being tenured in 1996 and promoted to associate professor in 2000, he was appointed as Antoni van Leeuwenhoek professor in 2006. He held an NWO-vidi subsidy from 2002 to 2007 and an NWO-vici subsidy in 2007 to 2014. Van Neerven served on several national advisory committees. From 2012 to 2017 he was editor-in-chief of the membership magazine Nieuw Archief voor Wiskunde of the Royal Dutch Mathematical Society, and as of 2019 he is editor-in-chief of the Society's mathematics journal, Indagationes Mathematicae. In 2024, he was elected a member of the Royal Dutch Academy of Arts and Sciences.
